When dads are absentee or marginally involved, their children can suffer. With that in mind, the Father Support Center of St. Louis, Missouri has made strides to help dads understand some of the ins and outs of parenting.
The Father’s Support Center is widely recognized for tackling the problem of absentee and uninvolved dads and every year the agency names one of their program participants,’Father of the Year’.
This year there are three finalists who have completed a 6 week boot camp with an emphasis on good parenting skills along with access to legal clinics, GED classes and job preparation activities.
One finalist credited the program with helping him to not only understand how to deal with child support, but also how to communicate, how to wear a tie to interviews, and just to present himself as a better man. Another felt like he gained more patience and a better relationship with his kids from the support he received at the center.
A little support can go a long way when it comes to parenting. Kudos to the Father Support Center and the graduates for their success!
